Badger Prairie Needs Network (BPNN) is a food pantry in Verona, Wisconsin, that serves over 24,000 people in Dane County. Since COVID began in early 2020, BPNN had to readjust their distribution process. Before, guests were able to shop for food on the shelves and were allotted a certain number of items per food category. During the pandemic, BPNN operated a curbside pickup and delivery service to meet the needs of their patrons. The team began to reimagine the way the food pantry runs once indoor gathering restrictions were lifted, using a point-based system rather than categorical shopping. In my rotation with BPNN, I was tasked with researching the benefits of transitioning to a point-based shopping system as well as offer recommendations for "pricing" items in a way that nudged shoppers towards healthier options in addition to reasonably addressing supply and demand of pantry inventory items. Below is my final presentation that outlines my vision for a point-based pantry system.
